Back to SCHOOL: Dry Erase Clip Board.

Where did SUMMER go?
I am not sure... but I think it is fair to say that the source of inspiration for my project is PANIC... It screams PLEASE HELP ME to deal with all of the back to school chaos. I have an  8, 9 and 10 years old... yep... Can you see now what I am talking about...

So here is what I came up with... a "back to school chart" to help me I mean help  them to stay on top of things and make the transition and the school year stupendous!
I made three of them, two for my girls and one for my boy...

Here is the tutorial  of how to make them....
This is what you'll need to make yours...
Regular Acrylic Paint, Clipboard, your choice of embellishments {ribbon, paper, fabric}
and vinyl  for the lettering...

The Steps Were REALLY SIMPLE...
1st: We painted the CLIPBOARDS...
{ I let the future owners of the boards help... ;) }

2nd: VINYL Time!
I used a high gloss vinyl for the polka dots and squares so the  dry erase markers could work on it and be erase easily... pretty cool!
{CLICK HERE FOR A FULL TUTORIAL OF HOW TO APPLY VINYL}

3rd:
Time to embellish the clipboards...
I want to keep them really simple, so I used just a strip of scrapbook paper and some ribbon for the girls. To make my boy's board look a bit tougher I used squares instead of dots and I antiqued the clipboard  using a regular ink pad.

a closer look...

...I want them to be not just adorable BUT useful...
so I came up with a plan of how to use them,

THIS IS HOW THEY WORK!Every day the children need to do and check off the five items on their list:
Homework done, backpack ready, 20 minutes of reading, shoes & clothes ready,
and be in bed on time...

THIS IS HOW THEY WORK!

Homework done, backpack ready, 20 minutes of reading, shoes & clothes ready,
and be in bed on time...

At the end of the day they get to bring their charts to us
and we will check it off with a :) or a :(  on the given day.

If they did their schools "chores" then they get to pick one of the 5 cards that have the "benefits" of being an A+ Responsible Student...
{ I made 3 sets of cards... one for each of them }

You can write any benefits you'd like.
These were the ones that we chose:
10 extra minutes before bed...
Make a wish... {any reasonable activity they would like to do}
Yummmy! You get an extra snack for school tomorrow!
Lucky! You just got a nighttime SNACK!
Read a BOOK! { My kids could be up all night reading}

I LOVE them... my Kids LOVE them... and this first week of school has been GREAT!

Now I better go...
I got some awesome  chalckboard paint for the back of the clipboard ;)
I'll post pictures later....

Here are some other back to school ideas

Not only are those clip boards beautiful, but they look extra useful too. Something like this will come in very handy when my girls are older. I had no idea that the vinyl could be used for dry erase! If you could please add a link back or my button to your post (like the CSI or Tip Junkie) I'd very much appreciate it. Thanks!

I was so happy to get a Beckie's pick for my master closet (that you featured too! wooo!)

I just linked up my blog to your "So you think you can blog" challenge. I LOVE that idea and am so grateful for the oppportunity!

Keep it awesome, girl!

Can't go wrong with that!
